No matter how our self-styled secularists vilify ancient Indian or Hindu wisdom, there is an element of eternity and universality about that treasure trove. It is a great work of reason and analysis. And there is no confusion in the discourse. Such is its universality that the intelligent Westerner woke up to it long ago and discovered the wealth therein. Such is its practicality that when Albert Einstein deconstructed the long-held Newtonian world view in the early part of the 20th century, and when quantum mechanics from the other side revolutionized the whole course of physics and brought about a paradigm shift in our perception of matter and energy, the founding fathers of the evolving field had already taken resort in Hindu wisdom, and to their utter surprise found that Hindu wisdom

Sitting on the beach, staring at the pale blue sea I am wondering if the world is really spherical? I could clearly see the flat, never-ending sea of water and thought to myself, how did we find out the world was actually a spherical shape? Thanks to my Yoga teacher and my association with this ancient discipline that brought me in touch with the amazing book called ‘Great Minds on India’ by Salil Gewali, which answered my question and took my knowledge of the ancient Indians much further than I could have imagined. Indian sages asserted the Earth as spherical many centuries before the Greek’s speculation over this idea.  I quickly realised the science and the literature of the Modern times is far behind compare to the ideas expounded by the ancient Indians.

Deepa Majumdar, Purdue University North Central, USA Every nation has its native essence, its unique historical destiny as carved by this essence, and its unique trajectory towards this destiny. At any point in its history, the citizens of a nation will be existentially apart from their nation, for they each have a birth and a death existentially separate from the birth and ongoing life of the nation. Therefore no citizen can, rationally speaking, claim in essence to belong wholly to any particular nationality. Much as we may love India, no Indian citizen can claim to be essentially Indian. We are each essentially human, and incidentally, by circumstance of birth, citizens of India.

Great Minds on India’, by Salil Gewali is a laboriously compiled beautiful booklet. In this book the author has compiled the sincere confessions of the great personalities of the world, wherein they admit their indebtedness to the great Indian philosophical and religious traditions; and how the Indian classical stores of knowledge have transformed their thought and understanding of the mystery of reality in its material and phenomenal manifestations, as well as in its spiritual and divine nature. This compilation is outstanding in itself. I really appreciate the labour and sweat that the author has put in his research to bring out this precious little book of wisdom.
